It's a year since we moved to Sweden, and when we did we set ourselves a carbon target - as a household to produce no more than 4423 Kg of CO2. Did we make it? Not quite...
The interesting thing is how close we actually got to reaching our target. We got to a respectable 4945 Kg of CO2, only 11% over our target. The interesting things are that when we bought the old Passat in late September it obviously wasn't in the best state of health - a few doses of engine cleaner & new oil and the consumption came right down. The chances are that if we'd done that sooner we may have actually met our target. For the year we bought a carbon allowance of 3.6 tonnes, thinking the second car would need it, so our net CO2 contributions are 1.3 tonnes. Not bad for a first attempt. The aim for the next year is to meet the target, and try and lower it further. Things such as converting the car to run on E85 are a possibility. |
