We've made some efforts to reduce our energy consumption compared to the UK, and as we're in the winter - when usage will be highest - I'm pleasantly surprised how it's going so far...
The snows have arrived again this week, so I expect it to not be a good week energy wise! Over the winter so far it's not been too bad.
Our target for the year, which was a rough stab at a number in July, is just under 1000 KWH per month for all heating, lighting, cooking and electricity usage. Recently we've changed a load of GU10 halogen bulbs that were dotted around the house for LED versions, reducing the energy from 35 - 50W per bulb to 1.2W (yup, 1 point 2 watts) per bulb. A very worthwhile reduction! The amount per month to date is a respectable 1219 KWH per month on average. The January snow and temperatures were worse than inNovember, but the energy pattern was better overall. We're hoping we can achieve a similar pattern in this cold spell. Update: Today in The Guardian there is an interesting article about replacing incandescent bulbs with energy efficent bulbs by Leo Hickman. |
