We've now been at Alledal for nearly 5 months. As winter is really drawing in, it seems the right time to do the energy check and see what progress we've made.
Through the steps we made a while back we've started to make some major progress with the energy efficiency. We've been tracking our energy usage since we arrived, and at the end of October winter really started to arrive and the heating started to kick in. It was at that point that we discovered that the programming for the heating system wasn't quite optimal. Our background energy usage is around 26 KWH/day, and when the heating kicked in it peaked at 79KWH per day. That seemed a little high! We set about reprogramming the heating system, and working on the thermostatic valves, to ensure the optimum heating settings. If you look over the early November figures you can see when we made progress, and when we made some big mistakes. Finally, we found the sweet spot, and the energy usage is now down so that heating is only around 20 KWH/day for a 140 m2 building. The next step is really to try and get the background energy usage down a bit more.
