After the first couple of weeks we're checking our energy consumption levels, too.
This was the target that we felt was going to be the hardest to sort out. Our target is 905 - 936 KWh per month. For this hot July start we're on 504 KWh per month. That is just 4.8 KWh per m2 - just over half our target we wanted to aim for! The real test will be later in the year when heating is really required. We have taken a few steps that may well make a difference. The TV, hi fi, etc etc have historically been left plugged in all the time, and on standby. The monitors for the computers, etc, also go into standby, along with the printer, etc... you get the idea. Remembering to properly unplug things isn't easy, and actually doing it isn't easy either when there are two sockets to the study, yet about 20 things plugged in. The only sane option has been to invest in timers, and have the actual mains turn off to the unnecessary items outside of "living time", so around 11pm the devices are turned off at the mains, and they only return onto standby at about 6am. A small change, but one which should cut the "standby usage" considerably. The next item that is probably saving us a lot at the moment is that we left the tumble drier back in our old home. We haven't got one here, yet. It'll be interesting to see how we cope. |
